The Rainforest Project POOR FARMERS

Intro In Brazil (south America) there is quite a big wealth gap! Its split up into roughly three sections the The rich The rich The average The average The poor The poor These three groups mean the government has too try to balance them out! The government had promised that by 2006 it will have homed over 400,000 families and so far has done nothing! Nearly half of all farmland is owned by just 1% of the population Nearly half of all farmland is owned by just 1% of the population

Shocking Facts In the mid 1990s, the top 10% of Brazil's population took half the national income. The bottom half took 12%. In the mid 1990s, the top 10% of Brazil's population took half the national income. The bottom half took 12%. In the countryside, poor people survived by growing subsistence crops. In the cities, many people have little regular work. In the countryside, poor people survived by growing subsistence crops. In the cities, many people have little regular work. There are nearly 3 million landless people in Brazil alone. The government has cleared large areas of the Amazon Rainforest and encouraged people to move there. The scheme has not been successful. Farmers stay on the same land and attempt to farm the land year after year. Nutrients in the soil are quickly exhausted as there is no longer a humus layer to provide nutrients. The foods of Brazil There are many foods and products of the rainforest! -soybeans, rice, corn (called "maize" in the UK) and wheat. They can also grow cotton and sugar cane, tropic fruits such as avocado pears and bananas, sub-tropical coffee and cocoa beans, Mediterranean oranges and lemons, and temperate apples and grapes. -soybeans, rice, corn (called "maize" in the UK) and wheat. What is happening to the farmers that live in Brazil When the Farmers of Brazil have some of their homes cut up by MacDonald's not only does it destroy their land and homes but it also changes what animals will live in that area of land. If the trees were cut down that would mean that there would be know where for the birds to live and they would have to move. The young would die because they could no fly when they are young When the Farmers of Brazil have some of their homes cut up by MacDonald's not only does it destroy their land and homes but it also changes what animals will live in that area of land. The Farmers Outlook Bad points Farmers are not simply getting any land to farm A.K.A the ‘war’ over land Farmers are not simply getting any land to farm A.K.A the ‘war’ over land Farmers protest against the government, Brazilian troops are used against the protesters some in cases farmers are killed! Farmers protest against the government, Brazilian troops are used against the protesters some in cases farmers are killed! The farmers in brazil don’t get paid enough for what they do! The farmers in brazil don’t get paid enough for what they do! The hungry farmers destroy the rainforest to buy food! The Farmers Outlook Good points other governments pay more interest to what is going on in brazil. other governments pay more interest to what is going on in brazil. GM crops have been introduced to the farmers this year to prevent the chopping down of trees. GM crops have been introduced to the farmers this year to prevent the chopping down of trees. Sum Up After this project I have found out that the farmers of Brazil are being very under paid. This means that if the farmers don’t have enough money to by the crops ect…. Then how will they be able to feed their family if they cant even pay for their crops. After this project I have found out that the farmers of Brazil are being very under paid. They point that I am trying to get at is that if they cant afford the crops then Brazil we fall into a fast problem. They will find them having know farmers becaseu the farmers will change living. In England a decade being a farmer was a good way. Now farmers who grow crops, on a good year the cut even and on a bad year the loss money. Now if its like this in England and MEDC what is it going to be like in a LEDC like Brazil In England a decade being a farmer was a good way.
