S3 Parents CfE Presentation Thursday 27 November 2014

Change to the Structure Was a 2 – 2 – 2 format. S1/2 – S3/4 – S5/6. With CfE a 3 – 3 format. S1/2/3 – S4/5/6.

Current S3 Curriculum Maths/English 2.5 x 80 minutes each. Modern Languages, Social Subjects and PE 2 x 80 minutes each. Science 3 x 80 minutes. Art, Drama/Music, Media Studies, RMPS, PSE and Technical 1 x 80 minutes.

S4 – S6 The Senior Phase from 2013/14. (Third year through.) S4 – 6 subjects English and Maths plus 4 others at N3, N4, N5. S5 – 5 subjects at N3, N4, N5, H. S6 – Minimum 4 subjects at N3, N4, N5, H, AH.

Assessment in the New Qualifications National 1/2/3/4 are entirely internally assessed. Mostly 3 units plus a value added task. They are pass/fail. National 5/Higher/Advanced Higher have mostly 3 internally assessed units and an external examination. Graded A to D, with A, B and C being considered passes.

Recognising Positive Achievement That is : What happens if a pupil does not get an award in the level because they have not passed an element. Example A History pupil has Passed the units but has no award in the National 5 course. If they have completed and Passed the National 4 History Assignment they get a national 4 Pass. Possible Progression Routes N5 in S4 - H in S5 - AH in S6. N4 in S4 - N5 in S5 - H in S6. N3 in S4 - N4 in S5 - N5 in S6. However there will be subjects you can start in S5 and S6 at N5 or Higher with no previous Senior Phase study.
