Lesson 1

The French community coming together after the attacks in Paris

 Locally  Regionally/Nationally  Internationally

You are part of a local community, whether that be your…  Home  School  Club  Society  Family  Etc…

 In groups of 4/5 discuss and share what LOCAL communities you are part of…  You have 3 mins and your teacher may ask some volunteers to feedback what was discussed in the groups.

Regional and national groups are little more complicated but we are all part of a regional/national community..  Regional/National Organisations or Groups  County Borough (e.g. Torfaen, Newport, Blaenau Gwent etc..  Welsh Rugby Union (WRU)  Football Association of Wales (FAW)  Welsh Blood Service  Welsh Health Boards  Wildlife Trust of Wales  Keep Wales Tidy  Anything that has “Wales” (before or after it)

 Using a laptop or computer, work on your own (or in small groups) to research some of the regional/national groups that exist in Wales. To make this more interesting you could look for groups related to your A/Level BTEC studies. e.g.  If you are doing Drama - look for national groups like The Arts Council of Wales,  If you are doing Geography - look at the Welsh Wildlife Trust,  If you are doing any of the sciences - look at the Welsh Blood Service  If you are doing a languages - look at the Welsh Language Commission.  You are required to spend 10 minutes researching and when your time is up you will be given a partner or partner group in the class to explain what you have found. This feedback can be visual as well as verbal.

 Although we may not directly see the benefits of international community groups and organisations, the British public make a number of contributions to a number of groups/organisations e.g.  Comic Relief  Water Aid  Oxfam  Save the panda  WWF  Red Cross/Red crescent  Amnesty International

 Watch the series of video adverts for international groups and storyboard your own advert that could be made to promote the international group. (Your teacher may allow paired work)  NB A storyboard is like a comic book and does not need elaborate drawings as the speech bubbles/comments underneath are important – templates are available
