Physical Characteristics Giraffes are 14 to 17 feet tall when they are grown. Their tongues are black with a sandpaper texture. When they are fully grown, they weigh about 2,500 to 3,000 pounds.
Behavioral Characteristics Giraffes can go long periods of time without water. Everyday they need about 10 minutes to 2 hours of sleep. They also prefer to run from danger, not fight.
Habitat Giraffes live in central, eastern, and southern Africa. Savannahs and light woodlands are the surroundings they prefer.
Food Preference s A giraffe’s favorite food is acacia leaves. They also prefer bark, leaves, flowers, and all sorts of fruits.
Interesting Facts Giraffes are the largest animals that live on land. The male giraffes are called bulls and the females are called cows.
