Rattlesnakes Rattlesnakes are reptiles that can grow as long as 8 feet in length. Rattlesnakes are cold-blooded animals that are covered in scales. Rattlesnakes slitter through the desert in search of food and water.

This type of animal eats Rats, birds and lizards. The rattlesnake has an important adaptation of a rattle on it’s tail. The rattle warns predators to stay away. It has poisonous venom to kill it’s prey.

The life cycle of a rattlesnake Some rattlesnakes lay up to 30 eggs in a day!

Cactus Cactus live in hot, dry conditions. They need little water to survive. Cactus store water in their skin to help it survive when there is no rain or water.

The Giant Saguaro Saguaro cacti have thick, fleshy stems to hold water. The stems are covered with waxy skin that helps keep the water from escaping. The giant Saguaro can grow as tall as a house! Cactuses are important to animals and insects. Birds build nests in the stems and animals and insects eat the stems and flowers.

Scorpion Scorpions live in hot, dry places. They use their claws to catch there pray and then they sting them with their tails. Scorpions belong to the arachnid family meaning they have eight legs like spiders.

Scorpion Scorpions are nocturnal, which means they hunt for food at night. They eat spiders and other insects. Female scorpions give live birth to many baby scorpions. She carries them on her back for a short time.
