Presentation transcript:

OPENNESS (1/3).  The global effort to set up institutional research repositories is explicitly recognized in this indicator  It takes into account the number of rich files (pdf, doc, docx, ppt) published in dedicated websites according to the academic search engine Google ScholarGoogle Scholar

OPENNESS  Both the total files and the total records and those with correctly formed file names are considered (for example, the Adobe Acrobat files should end with the suffix.pdf).

Objective  The objective is to consider recent publications that now are those published between 2008 and 2012 (new period).

Strategies  Keep track of our publications in the repository site: Books, journals, lectures & speeches, research papers, thesis, dissertations, conferences & workshops.  Ensure upload of correctly formed file names (pdf, doc, xls, ppt)

IMPACT  Visibility (50%)  The quality of the contents is evaluated through a "virtual referendum", counting all the external inlinks that the University webdomain receives from third parties

Impact  Those links are recognizing the institutional prestige, the academic performance, the value of the information, and the usefulness of the services as introduced in the webpages according to the criteria of millions of web editors from all over the world.

Impact  The link visibility data is collected from the two most important providers of this information: Majestic SEO and ahrefs.Majestic SEO ahrefs  Both use their own crawlers, generating different databases that should be used jointly for filling gaps or correcting mistakes.  The indicator is the product of square root of the number of backlinks and the number of domains originating those backlinks  important :link popularity and the link diversity

Web directory  Is a directory on the world wide web.  It specializes in linking to other web sites and categorizing those links  lists web sites by category and subcategory

Web Directory  Web directories often allow site owners to submit their site for inclusion, and have editors review submissions for fitness.

Types of directories  Free submission – there is no charge for the review and listing of the site  Reciprocal link – a link back to the directory must be added somewhere on the submitted site in order to get listed in the directory  No Reciprocal link — a web directory where you will submit your links for free and no need to add link back to your website

Types of directories  Paid submission – a one-time or recurring fee is charged for reviewing/listing the submitted link  No follow – there is a rel="nofollow" attribute associated with the link, meaning search engines will give no weight to the link No follow  Featured listing – the link is given a premium position in a category (or multiple categories) or other sections of the directory, such as the homepage. Sometimes called sponsored listing.

Types of directories  Bid for position – where sites are ordered based on bids  Affiliate links – where the directory earns commission for referred customers from the listed websites Affiliate links
