Ancient Egypt, Ancient country in northeastern Africa, in the lower reaches of the Nile River. The territory of Egypt - one of the oldest centers of civilization. History of ancient Egypt can be divided into periods of ancient (late 04/03 millennium BC. Er.) Medium (up to 16.), New (until the end. 11.) Kingdoms, and later Persian (11-4 cc. in 4.6 cc. - ruled by the Persians), Hellenistic (4-1 cc. BC. er. in the State of the Ptolemies).

Most of the ancient Egyptians were farmers, tied to the land. Their dwellings were built of brick of raw to keep cool in the midday heat. Each house had a kitchen with an open roof, which was placed a millstone for grinding flour and a small oven for baking bread.

The ancient Egyptians paid great importance to personal hygiene and appearance. They bathed in the waters of rivers and used soap in the form of a paste from animal fats and chalk. Clothing was made from simple cuts bleached linen, men and women from higher strata wore wigs and jewelry.Children went without clothing until the age of about 12 years. The mother were responsible for the care of children, and his father provided the family income.

The basic diet consisted of bread and beer, supplemented by vegetables such as onions and garlic, and fruits such as dates and figs. Wine and meat are served on holidays. Egyptians entertained with music and games such as Senet.

Our knowledge of this era are scarce. It is known that already at that time in Egypt there was a large and carefully controlled royal household, was developed agriculture and animal husbandry. Grew wheat, barley, grapes, figs and dates, bred cattle and small livestock. The inscriptions on the extant seals suggest the existence of a developed system of public positions and titles.
