The new Air Force Corporate Facilities Standards (or AFCFS) is an enterprise-wide program of standards and criteria to establish improved levels of performance for facilities design and operation. AFCFS provides an exciting direction forward: by creating and maintaining sustainable installations and High Performance Sustainable Buildings throughout the Air Force.

The Overview highlights the principal direction of AFCFS: to balance cost, functionality and character in facilities design to meet the diverse and stringent demands of our missions. Links to resources (such as UFCs, AFIs and ETLs) are provided for all new facility construction and renovation projects. The navigation menu on the right side of the screen lists the major sections. AFCFS will ultimately include four main sections. This initial release (Version 1.0) launches the first two main sections: Facilities Exteriors and Facilities Interiors. When clicking on a section, it will open to list topics within that section.

All of the standards are listed in the tab format with one exception: Materials. Clicking on the Materials standards navigates to a unique page.

The materials standards provide detailed information to assist in the evaluation and selection process for materials and systems that are appropriate for the facility type, use, Base design standards and the local climate.

A graphic chart lists materials along the left side and evaluation criteria across the top. Criteria include Facility Groups, locations, cost information, climate information, and information on flexibility and expandability. An empty circle indicates a less-desirable application and a full circle indicates the more-desirable application. Considerations such as durability and lifecycle costs as well as ongoing maintenance requirements and associated flexibility are critical in evaluating materials.
