Tjenester fra Nemko Jon Ivar Tidemann

Challenges for industry  Different technical sollutions favoured in different Markets( Gas vs. El vs Coal)  Legislation not harmonized like in Safety  Energy Efficiency only first wave- ErP is a frame Directive requiring continous improvement.  Saving materials the long term winner.

Green products and green houses- the future The new trend

Future houses with living rooms facing South – they will have conditioning systems not single products

Worldwide Energy Labeling Programs

The Environmental Area from a testing and standardisation view System Certification Chemical substances in products Energy efficiency ISO EMAS Carbon Footprint ErP Korean e-regulation California energy regulation Japan Top Ten RoHS screening also or wet analyses CE from 2013 REACH-SVHC list plan to have 100 subst. by 2012 WEEE- recycling, increase target to 65%

Requirements to household products  Safety  EMC  EMF  RoHS / PAH /  WEEE  ErP if regulation  Packaging  User instruction  Toxic materials –contact with water  Battery, if applicable  REACH- dependent on production site and amount Not required ISO by legislation but you need it to achieve continous improvement

Erp/Ecodesign Directive EC/125/2009 what is that?  ErP- Energy related products, also outside the the electrical area. Transport sector excluded  Eco Design or Environmental Concious Design-The goal of environmentally conscious design is the reduction of adverse environmental impacts of a product throughout its entire life cycle. This can involve balancing the environmental aspects of the product with other factors, such as its intended use, performance, cost, marketability and quality, and choosing methods to meet legal and regulatory requirements in the most environmentally friendly way

ErP Directive is the first to look at the entire life cycle

LCA for Desktop

A framework Directive means simply that you pick modules from this table and implement regulations on individual areas

Implementation Measures ( IM ) is actually a name for a regulation under the ErP Directive 2009/125/EC (ErP) Framework Conditions and criteria to identify implementation measures for each specific group Implementation Measures

Ways of showing Conformity for manufacturers Conformity Presumption of Conformity Implementation Measures Requirements Eco Marks and EMAS Certification Testing, making technical file + Eco design ISO certified + EMAS Route I Route II

EMAS out/summary_en.htm EMAS report

European Eco Marks and Markings Assumption of comformity Route III Instead of test report but need ecodesign

Annex IV Internal Design Control  Procedure whereby the manufacturer or its authorised representative ensures and declares that the product satisfies the relevant requirements of the applicable implementing measure. The EC declaration of conformity may cover one or more products and must be kept by the manufacturer.  Requirements for the techical file:  description of product and of its intended use;  results of relevant environmental assessment studies carried out by the manufacturer, and/or references to environmental assessment literature or case studies, which are used by the manufacturer in evaluating, documenting and determining product design solutions;  the ecological profile, where required by the implementing measure;  elements of the product design specification relating to environmental design aspects of the product;  a list of the appropriate standards referred to in Article 10, applied in full or in part, and a description of the solutions adopted to meet the requirements of the applicable implementing measure where the standards referred to in Article 10 have not been applied or where those standards do not cover entirely the requirements of the applicable implementing measure;  a copy of the information concerning the environmental design aspects of the product provided in accordance with the requirements specified in Annex I, Part 2; and  the results of measurements on the ecodesign requirements carried out, including details of the conformity of these measurements as compared with the ecodesign requirements set out in the applicable implementing measure. Ecodesign Test report

17 Environmental Impacts Output - related to emissions  Climate change  Stratospheric ozone depletion  Human and eco toxicity  Photo-oxidant formation (smog)  Acidification  Nutrification / eutrophication

18 How to do EcoDesign - Product use What is the product‘s energy consumption compared with competitors‘ products?  lower  same  higher Does your product have energy saving features?  yes  under developm ent  no Do you use batteries / rechargeable batteries in your product?  no  yes Do you know, which rechargeable batteries for your specific application are the most environmentally benign ones? (recharge cycles, materials)  yes  no Do you motivate the customer to reduce unnecessary stand-by?  yes  no Are your energy saving features state of the art and easy to use?  yes  under developm ent  no

Eco-design  The production, distribution, use and end of life management of energy-using products (EuP) are associated with a number of important environmental impacts. It is estimated that over 80% of all product related environmental impacts are determined during the product planning phase; integration of environmental considerations as early as possible into the product development process appears therefore the most effective way for introducing changes and improvements to products. The ErP Directive is the first directive to focus on the designers competence

Services for ErP from Nemko Consulting Testing Statement AoC Audit Check which regulation is valid for the product Test according to accepted standard Step I Step II Step III Step IV StepV Check test results towards the relevant EU Regulation Check of eco design at the factory Attestation with the Directive

Manufacturers declaration or DOC  From March 1st, Need to add 2009/125/EC according to regulation 278/2009

RoHS Directive Recast sofar we know 2013 Manufacturer to document compliance According to the new proposed RoHS, EEE shall have CE marking also according to RoHS.
