Martin’s Mondays Raising funds in memory of Martin Bacon Created by Team Bacon

Who is Martin? Teacher Martin Bacon’s career was driven by his underlying belief that every child mattered. As the much-respected and well-liked Executive Principle of Cambridge Meridians Academies Trust and Principal of Swavesey Village College he led by example, instilling that ethos in every member of staff he worked with. He was also a dad to Jess and Josh, husband to Kathleen and friend to many. Martin died of a brain tumour in May 2013 aged just 47, weeks after taking part in a charity run. He spent the final three weeks of his life at Sue Ryder – Thorpe Hall Hospice. Martin’s courage and determination has already inspired friends, pupils and his family to fundraise in his name. Now we’d like your school to get involved

A short film by Martin’s children, Jess and Josh Bacon, explaining why they want you to get involved U U

What we’d like your school to do Join Martin’s Mondays: one a month during the spring term March: Kick off the year with Martin’s Mufti Day giving all children the chance to ditch their uniform for one Monday in return for a donation April: Encourage keen bakers to enter their best muffins, cookies and cupcakes into Bacon’s Bake Off, judge the entries and then sell them May: Tackle Martin’s Mile by getting the whole school involved in a sponsored walk, a class swim, create a mile long strand of loom bands or lay a mile of coins – or come up with your own take on Martin’s Mile. Every penny raised will go towards funding a bedroom in the new Thorpe Hall Hospice

The new Thorpe Hall Martin received incredible care at Thorpe Hall Hospice. But staff, patients and their loved ones have to work around the impracticalities of a 17 th century mansion house. The new inpatient unit will provide a state of the art, single storey facility with 20 en suite rooms – no more sharing bedrooms or bathrooms. We believe that, together, schools from across the region which Thorpe Hall serves can raise £135,000 which will pay for building and fitting out a bedroom like this. We’d love you to be involved in shaping the future of hospice care in our community

Get involved Call the Thorpe Hall fundraising team on or to pledge your support for Martin’s Mondays. The team can provide you with sponsor forms, poster templates, a presentation to show your students and information. Talk to your colleagues and students about Martin’s Mondays. Show them the film and gather ideas from them about how to raise even more money for Martin’s Mondays. Share your involvement on your website, in your newsletter, with the local press and with parents - and with the fundraising team at Thorpe Hall too. For more information please visit Enjoy being part of something incredible in memory of Martin Bacon.
