H OW TO F ILL O UT A B OOK B IBLIOGRAPHY W ORKSHEET

F ILL OUT A BIBLIOGRAPHY SHEET AS SOON AS YOU START TAKING NOTES Choose the correct bib sheet. Then write your name on it!

U SE THE TITLE PAGE The verso is on the reverse (back) of the title page. It’s also called the copyright page. AND VERSO

G ET AS MUCH INFORMATION AS POSSIBLE FROM THE TITLE PAGE. I T ’ S EASIER TO FIND IT ! Name formatting is: Last, First Middle. Guide to Formatting Authors’ Names in Citations – What to do if there is more than one author, one or more editors, a corporate author, or other challenges.Formatting Authors’ Names Copy the author’s name from the title page, putting the last name first. Middle names and middle initials follow the first name. Don’t turn middle names into initials or skip the middle name. Example: Tomecek, Stephen M.

F ILL IN THE TITLE : Capitalize all titles correctly! Capitalizing Titles Capitalizing Titles Guide AND SUBTITLE Use a colon after the title, if there is a subtitle. Title: Subtitle. Title = What a Great Idea: Subtitle = Inventions that Changed the World Example: What a Great Idea: Inventions that Changed the World.

F IND THE EDITION ON THE TITLE PAGE Look for Revised, Teacher, Second, 11 th, etc. The X is just a place holder. It shows that you looked for the edition and there either wasn’t one listed or it was the 1 st edition. If no edition is listed or it is the first edition, put an X on the line. Every book has a 1 st edition, therefore it’s not significant. When you write up your citation, you will skip over the X if you have one, but include any other edition information. Ex: 6 th ed. OR VERSO

F IRST CHECK THE TITLE PAGE FOR THE CITY Find the city of publication, not the city where it was printed. N EXT TRY THE VERSO If more than one city is listed, use the first one. Tip: If the city isn’t on the title page, look for it near the name of the publishing company.

F IRST CHECK THE TITLE PAGE FOR THE NAME OF THE PUBLISHING COMPANY N EXT TRY THE VERSO

S OMETIMES THE PUBLICATION DATE IS ON THE TITLE PAGE Look for the © to find the publication (copyright or edition) date. M ORE OFTEN IT ’ S ON THE VERSO If there is more than one publication date, use the most recent. Example: © 1998, 2005, 2009 Use 2009

W HAT IS THE MEDIUM ? What is the format? Traditional book with pages = Print Book read on computer, Kindle, Nook, etc = eBook Audiobook on a set of CDs = CD Audiobook on iPod, iPhone, Fuze, etc = MP3

A DD A BULLET Use a different bullet for each resource. Each bullet will go next to every note you take from that resource so that you can identify where it came from. The will not be next to notes from any other resource. In this case, every note with a next to it will be information from What a Great Idea: Inventions that Changed the World.

N EXT S TEPS Follow the directions on your assignment If you need to turn the information from your bibliography worksheet into citation format - Follow the model and directions on the bib sheet or Choose the right tutorial and continue the process!

N EED H ELP ? Don’t freak out! Ask for help! Go through the tutorial again while you wait!
