Assignment Annotated Bibliography (3-4 pages) Due – Oct. 6th at 8 pm …. present an annotated bibliography, for an argumentative paper on the topic the reception of a film of your choice which premiered before Jan. 1, You will need to select a film. It’s not terribly important which film, so long as there’s a “decent” amount of writing available about it

Searching online databases & resources Double check spellings For unique names, use just last name – eisenstein For names and titles that are also common phrases, use “quotation marks” – “curtain pole” Try different spellings of names – charles chaplin or charlie chaplin

Searching online databases & resources Use date limits if available – Limit to date range for the few years after film premiered. Check for other ways to limit lists of results if you have too many

Proquest Databases Choose all databases Set date limits – usually a range of 2 years after release

Film Review Index lists references to articles about films

Search Media History Digital Library Set date limits Set collection & title limits if necessary How to check for information to include in bibliography Get bibliographic information from actual page

Reprints of early articles: Some articles are sometime reprinted in more recent publications (books, articles, etc.) Selected Film Criticism in the course reserves room for FMST 211includes a number of reprints from early magazines and newspapers. (Available in the Course Reserves room.)
