Skills options in the Graduate Programmes Group 6

Genesis The average Graduate today is not finding the ability to find jobs, livelihood skills or very little connection to even life skills. The Graduate from any university today have very little awareness about the local resources, history or productivity and avenues of new products & services. Ability to have values, ethical & tolerant attitude for social interaction and ideas exchange.

Skill Deficit Education The requirements of providing the life skills and employability skills as also the social skills need to be incorporated in the General HE Graduate programs. The Ability to get awareness of local issues and what are the course connection with the real world need to be incorported in the course structure.

Skill components Additions It is proposed 20% course curricula should be that having the components as to have – Livilehood skills Soft skills Communication skills Presentation & interaction skills – Ethical, Value & Human Skills Self awareness Tolerance Cultural diversity

Example Let us say that a Program is Basic Graduation – Having 150 total course credits in 6 semester – It will mean 25 credits per semester and the total skill component would be five credits – If the semester load is 5 courses then each course can have one credit equivalent of skill based course content or project/ term paper/ assignment in the field. – The student would then have the choice to select the components of the skills in each course as a choice.

Implementing Strategy Give the generic list of skills in each category and then integrate them in the connected to the existing theory courses for students to have the course compatibility and structural coherensce. The shortage of course teachers/ inustructors for rolling out of these integrated courses with industry/ NGO/ Social Activists.

Thanks to all the members of the Group for their contributions and interaction and Thanks to you all.
