Globalization Globalization is understood as a process or flow (of people, cultures, trade, ideas, goods, capital, etc). As such: humanity has globalized: Migration of population; spread of ideas, techniques; increased coordination and interdependence of important activities at a world scale.
Some features of globalization in different periods Early globalization took place slowly - with slow pace Recently (of 20 th century marked by high - tech industries), the flows of goods, capital, etc accelerated - even more with the use of IT. At the same time political institutions, communication systems, technology, deceases, pollution, criminality etc, also increasingly took international scale.
Cont. The 19 th century globalization consolidated states -States enhanced control over resources, activities and people within their boundaries. The th century globalization undermined the central state power – free & rapid move of capital, knowledge, etc. from country to country. Nongovernmental and transnational organizations emerged as out of control by states - out of their orders.
Simultaneously inequalities enlarged between nations – huge gap between rich and poor. Example 94% of globe inhabitants lack Internet, while in rich countries 90 % don’t Global warming caused by fuel and industries- most caused by rich countries- example of Nigeria.. Politically: National Liberation movements increasingly become civil wars; civil wars and genocide scaled up; ethnic conflict become the greatest source of political killing. Cont On plus side, among other: Aid to poor countries increased, States integrated into the world economy and world polity gained Cheep IT Technologies paved the way for inhabitants also of poor countries to enjoy such facilities
Multicultural education Every one should enjoy fundamental freedom multiculturalism and multicultural education mean different things in different countries: – In some multicultural education is promoted as a means to help students obtain skills for employment in the global society and to educate citizens to accept and affirm human/cultural diversity. – In other countries, the idea of multicultural education (and multiculturalism) is seen as a way to address equality issues; and – still in other countries it receives a mixed acceptance or it is rejected for various reasons, including a perception that it is a threat to national ‘solidarity’ It means differently in different contexts.
