GarageBand What is GarageBand? It is a practice and recording studio right on your personal Mac computer! Created by Apple and can be found any Apple Store location or online at store.apple.com. Usually comes individually or in the iLife package. ▫Individual Packages cost $99.00 ▫iLife Package cost $79.00, but includes other programs as well.

GarageBand The theme is to have all sorts of musicians, from novice to professional. GarageBand gives many opportunities such as private lessons on how to play instruments, provides materials to compose new music, and to hear the final product with a virtual band. GarageBand also allows you to mix and record like a pro!

GarageBand in the Classroom GarageBand can be used in the classroom to: ▫Help students with self-evaluations ▫Create Podcasts for review activities. ▫Help students with reading, such as Audio Books. ▫Play around with music, students have the opportunities to learn a new instrument and compose their own music. ▫Assist music teachers in accompaniment, if they do not have an accompanist.

Podcasts What is a Podcast? It is similar to a TV, radio show, or other audio clips that people find on the internet. They are downloadable onto a “podcatcher”, or a free program on your computer. Podcasts make audio clips available at any time. You can also move the podcasts from your computer onto a portable device such as an iPod or mp3 player and can listen to them anywhere.

Podcasting Programs such as iTunes, Windows Sound Recorder, and various free online programs can create Podcasts. The overall theme of a Podcast is to share information, stories, lectures, and personal opinions. ▫Radio Stations such as NPR record all of their programs in order for people to listen to them on their own time. And the best part about Podcasting is that it’s FREE! Since it is widely available and almost everyone can make a Podcast, use caution regarding the content of certain Podcasts.

Podcasts in the Classroom Podcasts can be used in the Classroom to: Practice foreign languages (vocabulary and sentence structure) Practice spelling of vocabulary Help students with reading skills. Teachers may put their lectures into podcasts in order to help their students review Help students who were absent to catch up on information. Have podcasts be apart of an assignment, by having students listen to a certain podcast and reflect on what they learned…using a podcast.
