Callsign Suffix '/D' The recommendation from GAREC 2007 to identify '/D' as suffix for stations handling traffic relating to emergency and disaster situations was made to the conference.... and was rejected.

Organisation and Training Active engagement of National Co- Ordinators and information sharing through new Regional Mailing list. Increase of number of National Co- Ordinators from 16 to 29 and more should follow since I know there are gaps !

Questionnaire issued to National Co- Ordinators get some basic information. Estimate >5000 amateurs involved in emergency comms in Region 1 Gathered information on VHF/UHF frequencies in use, we should protect all spectrum used for emergencies not just HF. Checked whether all countries could handle 'third party traffic' in emergencies.
Organisation and Training GlobalSET remains the main training opportunity for international working. IARU HF Emergency Operating Procedure now translated into English, German, Spanish, Polish, Norwegian and Portuguese ! Permission granted by RAC ( Canada ) to take parts of their training manual for use as a Region 1 Operating Manual
Publicity GlobalSET was moved from May to April 18 th to join World Amateur Radio Day. Some countries got good publicity. News item on BBC World Service featuring Alberto IK1YLO and Allen W1AGP. We need to share more good news about events in our countries ! More opportunities coming up...
