Beef Opportunities Texas 4-H and Youth Development EventInformationContact Information BEEF: Beef Quiz Bowl This activity helps 4-H’ers increase their knowledge of beef cattle and the 4-H Beef Program. Clubs can use this “game show” activity as an effective and fun teaching method any time during the year. 4-H members who do not own beef cattle can participate. Counties and districts schedule their Beef Bowls at various times of the year. State 1st and 2nd place teams advance to national competition. Sheep and Goat Opportunities Texas 4-H and Youth Development SHEEP & GOAT: 4-H Goat Camp This program is for beginning and intermediate youth involved in meat goat projects. It includes sessions on ethics, facilities, selection, nutrition, health, management, fitting and showmanship. The camp is held in July and sponsored by the Animal Science Department. Scott Horner Dairy Goat Specialist (936) SHEEP & GOAT: Goat Kid Giveaway Program The Cooperative Extension Program, in cooperation with the, sponsors this program to bring quality dairy, boer, or miniature goats and interested 4-H members together. The 4-H members do not have to have experience with goats, but they must show a high level of interest and responsibility, and have adequate facilities and help to successfully raise a goat. Judging Opportunities Texas 4-H and Youth Development EventInformationContact Information JUDGING: Livestock Judging The three national livestock judging events 4-H youth can compete in are: North American Livestock Exposition—,, November; American Royal Livestock Show—,, November; and National Western Livestock Show—, January. The top three teams from 4-H Roundup represent on the national level. Partial donor support may be provided to eligible teams for each event; however, teams raise money for the remainder of needed funding.
