Housing The Salinan houses were made of willow, grass, and rushes.

Food The Salinan people hunted and gathered their food. They ate jerky and gathered wild berry. However, during the winter, dove, quail, squirrels, rabbits, deer, and antelope were also their favorite foods. Many seeds were gathered then eaten or put in special little granaries. Small birds were also what they ate along with madronas, chia (sage), and the sap of red grass, a tall leafy shrub collected and dried to make sugar and molasses. Deer Acorn Crusher

Clothing The Salinan men wore clothes made of deer skin and antlers especially for hunting, but the women wore skirts made from leather, grass, tule, fiber, and woven rabbit fur for warmth. The men wore nothing or just a breechcloth made of goat skins during the summer. Robes and basket hats were worn by the Salinan women. Animal skin blankets were worn by both men and women.

Trade The Salinan’s main trading partner were the Yokuts Indians. The Salinan Indians traded shell beads for the Yokuts’ salt grass, tanned deerskin, and antelope skins. Beads made of mussels and abalone shells were what they used for money. They needed to trade because they don’t have all their resources around them.
