Slide # 1 “Task-level GEOSS Roadmap” Chu Ishida, JAXA Yoichi Nakamura, Mitsubishi Research Institute, Inc. Feb. 6-7, 2008 ADC Full Committee Meeting #6

It has the following features; It is two level roadmap (Target and Tasks) and the linkage of targets and task is shown. Transition and evaluation of task is also given, indicating where we are in the progress in overall targets and tasks. If we know how far we could make progress or where progress is slow, we could make necessary adjustment for better task management. Slide # 2 Proposed Task-level Roadmap The task-level roadmap is developed based on the existing roadmap which is for providing overall picture of the GEOSS implementation process. The task-level roadmap is for planning actual implementation. JAXA has developed the task-level roadmap for CEOS and proposed it for review at the CEOS IP Meeting in December GEOSS 2, 6, 10 year targets relating to space-based observation are extracted in accordance with the “CEOS IP for Space Based Observations for GEOSS”.

GEOSS IP Targets - Water Integration Product User IF Test a fully integrated prototype data system with assimilation, analysis & visualisation Operational integrated data system Space-based observation Study capabilities for: - surface water quality - streamflow and water storage (altimeters) 3 hourly global precipitation GPM & Missions for surface & subsurface water stores Plan water quality monitoring Data and info on water quantity and quality to protoype expert decision support sys Collaborative mechanism between obs and research community Gravity mission for ground water stores New products for precipitation, soil moisture, evaporation and evapotranspiration Planning Prototyping Operational Routine watershed health indicators WA WA Implementation plan for data integration system WA WA-06-02: Forecast Models for Drought and Water Resource Management WA-06-07: Integrated Earth Observation Water Resource Management WA-07-01: Global Water Quality Monitoring DA-07-03: Virtual Constellations AR-07-03: Global Geodetic Reference Frames Advocate EO for water resource management for developing countries WA WA-08-P1: Integration of In-situ and Satellite Data for Water Cycle Monitoring Integrated precip. and soil moisture products (IGOS-P) WA WA WA WA-08-P1 WA DA AR AR-06-09,10

JAXA proposes to develop the task-level roadmap for GEOSS as a part of the Tactical Document. For GEOSS, all targets and tasks should be covered, not only targets relating to space-based observation. Task-level road map will be useful in understanding where you are and how you are doing for each task. Task-level Roadmap for GEOSS
