Session Overview & Objectives Objectives: –Identify key steps in collaborative problem solving model –Apply initial problem-solving steps to selected issues within WA community

Achieving Workable Unity The ability to bring together diverse perspectives in an environment that supports respect for differences and commitment to group initiatives.

Collaborative Problem Solving Present Desired Future

Roadmap Vision Planning Problem ExecutionSolution

Planning What to do: reach agreements re: Stakeholders – who to include – at which points – in what capacity Steps in process

Problem What to do:  Engage stakeholders in sharing their perspectives on the problem  Use systems thinking tools to analyze the problem  Reach agreement on problem dimensions and root causes

Vision Space Vision What to do:  Gather views about and reach agreement on what success looks like

Solution Space Goal: Agreement on a solution(s) that everyone is willing to support Solution What to do:  Identify & evaluate potential solutions  Reach agreement on which solutions to be executed.

Execution What to do:  Develop timeline for carrying out steps to implementing and evaluating chosen solution – make sure to clarify who, what, when & how  Execute!
