Welcome to…

History of the Artemis Program Artemis was founded in 1996 at Brown University This is the premiere year of Artemis at Columbia University The mission of Artemis: To encourage young women to study computer science and engineering by providing a venue for them to learn about these fields and introduce them to female role models who are passionate about computer science and engineering.

What will the students learn? Robotics Web Design: HTML/CSS Programming: Python Graphics Search/Sorting Algorithms Electrical Engineering Excel Graphing and Formulas Cryptography And More!

A Day at Artemis Arrive at 9am 9am-9:20am: Warm-up activity 9:20am-12pm: Hands on Computer Projects 12pm-1pm: Lunch at John Jay Dining Hall 1pm-3:30pm: Guest lectures and theoretical topics Leave at 3:30pm (some field trips may end after 3:30; we will notify everyone ahead of time) We also have a morning and afternoon break and time to get sunshine!

Lunch Options Each day (Mon-Thurs) students will go to John Jay Dining Hall They will have about varying food options on field trip days Salad Bar Sandwiches Grill Soups Hot lunch “Action Station” The choices are varied every day! If you have special dietary concerns, we will make sure to provide options for you.

Guest Speakers One of the goals of Artemis is to provide girls with female role models Presentations from both Columbia University community members as well as industry professionals. We'll hear about their research and learn about some of the most cutting edge discoveries in CS.

Presentations Students will present a topic they learned about at Artemis What: Presentation & Reception Where: Botwinick Lab, 12 th floor of Mudd When: August 8th from 5:30-8pm Who: Family and friends are invited!

Conduct Students must treat their peers, the coordinators, and guest speakers with respect. We have a zero tolerance policy for bullying. We expect students to be attentive and respectful at all times, especially when on field trips and when we have guest speakers. You are representing Artemis and Columbia University, and we want to make a good impression. If a student will be absent or tardy, we will contact a parent or guardian after fifteen minutes. If you know she will be absent, please give advance notice if possible!

Students may only visit websites relevant to the Artemis curriculum (facebook, twitter, tumblr, etc. are for your own time!) Cell phones must be put away and turned off unless for emergencies, or during breaks Keep the lab clean! Food will not be allowed in the lab. Water bottles must a have safety cap. Conduct (cont.)

Special Notes to Parents Parents may call the coordinators during regular camp hours in case of emergency. After camp hours we can be contacted via: at or Voic at (347)

Transportation Subway: Take the 1 to 116 th st. Enter Columbia’s campus at 116 th st and walk to the North-east corner of campus. This building is called Mudd and the Botwinick lab is on the 12 th floor. Bus: Take the M4 or M104 to 120 th and Broadway. Walk towards Amsterdam (east) and enter Mudd on the south side of the street. You will be on the 1 st floor of Mudd, take the elevators to 12 th. Alternatively take M60 to 120 th and Amsterdam. Please update the transportation form before you leave

General Tips Wear comfortable clothing (sneakers, etc.) and a water bottle. We will be doing outdoor activities! Bring a sweater. The building is air conditioned and can get very chilly!
