1.Where to begin? Meet with resident or business owner to discuss their role in the program: A. feeding schedule B. Shelter Maintenance C. Follow-up medical care D. overall care

What is… Trap-Neuter-Return???? 2.

Trap (humanely) First, determine a feeding schedule or the regular routine of the cats and then prepare a trapping schedule! Notify residents and neighbors of the scheduled trapping event. On a single date or multiple dates the trapping is pursued until ALL cats determined to be part of the colony are trapped.

Medical & Overall care NEUTER (or spay) Cats are taken to low-cost or no-cost sterilization clinics throughout Massachusetts to be altered, vaccinated, examined for general health and injury. Cats to be released are ear tipped to identify them as altered.

Return Un-adoptable, (un-socialized) cats are returned to the area from which they came from or to a nearby area that has been agreed upon by all parties involved.

3.How will the program be completed and by whom? Local Animal Control, Humane Organizations and Citizen Volunteers are rallied together to take on the task of the TNR project: Including: trapping, transportation, pre-op and post-op care, foster care, shelter development and colony oversight. Local and State-wide Veterinarians and non-profit Organizations are contacted to provide medical services pertaining to the TNR project.

How to Finance? Raise Funds Seek Low and No Cost Medical Options Obtain Food and Shelter Donations 4.

Colony maintenance a.Medical attention-provide care for sick or injured cats b.Feeding-providing food on a schedule, keep clean. c.Shelter maintenance- build or purchase a shelter, provide straw, etc. d.Also, observe new cats entering the colony and provide immediate trap-neuter-return of the newcomers. 5.

Possibly Side Effects-RESULTS Reduction in Colony Size Controlled Feeding Practices Minimized Behavioral Disturbances Safer Existence for both Residents and Cats Long-term Resolution Bottom Line…A Positive Relationship between the Community and Housing Establishment or Business can be Obtained!!!!!

Adoptions -a potential side affect Some Cats and kittens will be deemed adoptable. A shelter or humane society volunteer will foster-care such cats until suitable homes are found. RESULTING in an immediate reduction in colony size... Win-Win

Feeding By regulating feeding- Volunteers within the residences can continue their passion to care for the animals BCC and BHA do not need to complete this portion of the program Feeding will be out of the common areas and controlled as part of the program ALTERATION will- Eliminate/Reduce the unwanted cat behaviors associated with mating- noise/fights, etc. Eliminate the odor of male cat spraying Keep cats healthier, happier and within a smaller traveling range Behavior Modifications

Vaccinations Safer Existence for both Residents and Cats

Resolution versus Quick Fix “Here Yee, Here Yee” A maintained Cat colony will decrease in size or stabilize over time due to the natural elimination of animals and the inability to reproduce. Drop-offs and strays will be recognized and TNR continued throughout the colonies existence, hence control of the colony! Quick Fix Euthanasia Practices Have Yet to be able to produce these results!
