The Science of Baking A Contest

Contest Rules In teams of 1, 2 or 3 people, you are to bake 1 item of your choice. The item must “rise”. In other words, it must be a food item that increases in volume as it is heated. The item must be baked. Frying, boiling or the use of a microwave is not allowed.

Contest Rules Along with the bake item, you will also produce a video. The video must be between 4 and 8 minutes in length.

Contest Rules The video will include the following: – Visual of all the ingredients used – A description of the item – Visual of the finished item – A description of how and why the physical and chemical changes that take place during baking occur. For example, why does the cake increase in volume? Why do the chocolate chips melt?

Contest Rules The video must also include a description of why each ingredient is included. – Example: – The eggs are for _______________________ – The baking soda is for ___________________

Contest Rules The video is due by the beginning of class on Thursday, May 29 th. Samples of the baked item are due anytime starting Wednesday, May 28 th to the beginning of class on Friday, May 30 th. The baked item must include a list of ingredients. The baked item will not be accepted without this list.

Who wins? There will be 2 declared winners – 1 prize for best and most creative video – 1 prize for best baked item The class will vote on best video I will choose best baked item
