Today we will compute a given percent as a part of a whole number. compute – figure out or an answer using math percent – per one hundred (100) whole number – counting numbers that start with zero Concept

When you take a test your score is shown as a percent. For example, lets say you take a math test that has 100 questions on it. If you score 70%, the number of answers correct is 70. APK

Percent means per hundred. It is another way of saying, “out of one hundred.” Percent CD

Whole Numbers are counting numbers that start with zero. Whole Numbers CD

Definition “Cent” is a Latin root word which means 100. Many words have come from the root cent such as: century centimeter centipede cent CD

How to compute a given percent of a whole number. 1. First, find the decimal equivalent of the percent. 2. Multiply the whole number with the decimal equivalent of the percent. 3. Compute the answer.

1. Percent is per one hundred, percent may be written as a decimal very easily. Simply place a decimal to the right of the percentage. 2. Next, move the decimal to the left two places. You have now changed your percent into a decimal. 75 %. =.75 Finding the decimal equivalent of the percent.

1. Percent is per one hundred, percent may be written as a decimal very easily. Simply place a decimal to the right of the percentage. 2. Next, move the decimal to the left two places. You have now changed your percent into a decimal. 33 %. =.33 Finding the decimal equivalent of the percent.

1. Percent is per one hundred, percent may be written as a decimal very easily. Simply place a decimal to the right of the percentage. 2.Next, move the decimal to the left two places. 3.If there is only one digit, you need to write a “0” to the left of the number. You have now changed your percent into a decimal. 3 %. =.030

Multiply the decimal equivalent of the percent with the whole number x

What is 50% of a dozen(12)? 50% = ½ =.50 Therefore: (dozen) 12 X.50 = x

What is 40% of 20? 40% = 40/100 =.40 Therefore: 20 X.40 = x

What is 3% of 36? 3% = 3/100 =.03 Therefore: 36 X 0.03 = x

Why is understanding percent of a whole number important? You will know the relationship between any whole number and a percent. You will know how a percent translates into decimals. What are other reasons why it is important to know how to understand IMP

What is 4% of 56? 4% = 4/100 =.04 Therefore: 56 X 0.04 = x

What is 12% of 144? 12% = 12/100 =.12 Therefore: 144 X.12 = x

What is 8% of 700? 8% = 8/100 =.08 Therefore: 700 X.08 = x

Let’s review what we learned about computing a given percent as a part of a whole number? What does percent mean? How do you write as a decimal? How do you compute a given percent as a part of a whole number? “out of a hundred” 10% 0.10 Multiply the whole number with the decimal equivalent of the percent.
