Define Toddler 1-3 Years of age, physical growth slows, and physical development increases

Teeth All primary teeth are in early in the 3 rd year. Does heredity and environment affect teeth quality? YES Tooth Decay: Caused by harmful bacteria in the mouth that forms Plaque --- the sticky, colorless film on the teeth % of 2 year olds and 60% of 3 year olds have tooth decay Tooth brushing should begin around 18 months or when enough teeth are in to brush.

Large (Gross) Motor Skills Daily activities that require large muscles What games and types of play improve large muscle groups.

Small (Fine) Motor Skills Involves their finer muscles of the wrists, fingers, ankles What activities promote small muscle development? (see picture examples) Manipulation improves with practice Motor skills can’t be learned until muscles and central nervous system can work together
