Warm Up 03/27 Practice CRCT Question: Review the steps for solving systems of equations using the elimination method in order to review before the quiz today. How to Solve Systems of Equations: Method #3 Solve Using Elimination Step 1- Put the equations into slope-intercept form or y=mx+b Step 2- Look at both equations and decide what you will need to to the equations in order to eliminate the “x” variable. For example, you may need to multiply one of the equations by a specific number in order to get the opposite and eliminate it. Example: 1 st equation is y= 2x+3 2 nd equation is 36 = 4x + y You will need to multiply by -2 in order to get -72= -4x - 2y. -4x is the opposite of the original 4x. Step 3- Now solve for “y”. Step 4- Use the value for “y” and substitute it into one of the original equations in order to solve for “x”. Step 5- Check to make sure the final values for “x” and “y” work for both equations.
