Jesus Christ’s Birth is in the Christian tradition a holiday commemorating the birth of the Jesus. The celebration of holidays starts on 25th December. It is preceded by the period of the four-week fast, called Advent.
In Poland we are decorating the Christmas tree, houses and streets with colourful lightings, chains and bells.
At some Christian Churches Christmas is beginning for the day preceding the anniversary of the birth of the Jesus – of Christmas Eve (evening 24 of December), called the Star in Poland. When the first star appears in the sky, the Poles sit down together at the table and share a wafer. They start treating themselves to fast dishes.
The family is preparing 12 dishes: mushroom soup, red borsch, pâtés with mushrooms, herring in cream, fried carp, carp in the spinach, fish with vegetables, the fruit cake, the cheesecake and the poppy-seed cake.
On the Christmas Eve Poles at first are laying some hay under the tablecloth and are leaving an empty plate for an unexpected guest.
I wish EVERYONE Marry hristmas!
