We Give Thanks to God for Every Gift

We Praise You, O God our Redeemer CW 609 Verses 1-3 Text: Julia B Cory, , alt. Setting: KREMSER Tune: Nederlandtsch Gedenckclanck, Haarlem, 1626

Verse 1: We praise you, O God, our Redeemer, Creator! In grateful devotion our tribute we bring: We lay it before you; we kneel and adore you; We bless your holy name; glad praises we sing.

Verse 2: We worship you, God of our fathers; we bless you. Through trial and tempest our guide you have been; When perils o'ertake us, you will not forsake us, And with your help, O Lord, our battles we win.

Verse 3: With voices united our praises we offer; To you, great Jehovah, glad anthems we raise. Your strong arm will guide us; our God is beside us. To you, our great Redeemer, fore'er be praise!

Pastor: Give thanks to the Lord who is good. All: God’s love is everlasting. Pastor: Come, let us praise God joyfully. All: Let us come to God with thanksgiving.

Pastor: For the good world; for things great and small, beautiful and awesome; for seen and unseen splendors: All: We thank you, O God. Pastor: For human life; for talking and moving and thinking together; for common hopes and hardships shared from birth until our dying: All: We thank you, O God.

Pastor: For work to do and strength to work; for the comradeship of labor; for exchanges of good humor and encouragement: All: We thank you, O God. Pastor : For marriage; for the mystery and joy of flesh made one; for mutual forgiveness and burdens shared; for secrets kept in love: All: We thank you, O God.

Pastor: For family; for living together and eating together; for family amusements and family pleasures: All: We thank you, O God. Pastor : For children; for their energy and curiosity; for their brave play and startling frankness; for their sudden sympathies: All: We thank you, O God.

Pastor: For the young; for their high hopes; for their candid criticism; for their search for freedom: All: We thank you, O God. Pastor : For growing up and growing old; for wisdom deepened by experience; for rest in leisure; for time made precious by its passing: All: We thank you, O God.

Pastor: For your help in times of doubt and sorrow; for healing our diseases; for preserving us in temptation and danger: All: We thank you, O God. Pastor : For the Church into which we have been called; for the good news we receive by Word and sacrament; for our life together in the Lord: All: We thank you, O God.

Pastor: For your Holy Spirit, who guides our steps and brings us gifts of faith and love, who prays in us and prompts our grateful worship: All: We thank you, O God. Pastor : Above all, O God, for your Son, Jesus Christ, who lived and died and lives again for our salvation; for our hope in him; and for the joy of serving him:

All: We thank and praise you, Eternal God, for all your goodness to us. Pastor : Give thanks to the Lord, who is good. All: God’s love is everlasting.

Confession and Absolution Pastor: Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created.

Confession and Absolution Pastor: In truth, then, let us examine our hearts and come to him in repentance for those times we’ve failed to recognize his gifts, or honor him as the Giver.

Confession of Sin All: Lord of life, I confess that I am by nature dead in sin. For faithless worrying and selfish pride, For sins of habit and sins of choice, For the evil I have done and the good I have failed to do,

Confession of Sin All: You should cast me away from your presence forever. O Lord, I am sorry for my sins. Forgive me, for Jesus’ sake.

Pastor: Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again. In his great mercy, God made us alive in Christ even when we were dead in our sins. Hear the word of Christ through his called servant: I forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

All: Amen. Pastor:I will sing to the Lord all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live All: May our meditation be pleasing to him as we rejoice in the Lord. Amen.

God’s Word to His People Philippians 4: Be content with God’s gifts

Confession of Faith Luther’s Explanation of the First Article of the Apostles’ Creed from the Small Catechism

All: I believe that God made me and every creature and that he gave me my body and soul, eyes, ears, and all my members, my mind and all my abilities.

All: And I believe that God still preserves me by richly and daily providing clothing and shoes, food and drink, property and home, spouse and children, land, cattle, and all I own, and all I need to keep my body and life.

All: God also preserves me by defending me against all danger, guarding and protecting me from all evil. All this God does only because he is my good and merciful Father in heaven, and not because I have earned or deserved it.

All: For all this I ought to thank and praise, to serve and obey him. This is most certainly true.

Pastor: Give thanks to the Lord, call on his name. All: Make known among the nations what he has done!

For the Fruit of His Creation CW #611 Verses 1-3 Text: Fred Pratt Green, B 1903, alt Setting: AR HYD Y NOS Tune: Welsh melody, 18th cent.

Verse 1: For the fruit of his creation, Thanks be to God. For his gifts to ev'ry nation, Thanks be to God. For the plowing, sowing, reaping, Silent growth while we are sleeping, Future needs in earth's safe- keeping, Thanks be to God.

Verse 2: In the just reward of labor, God's will be done. In the help we give our neighbor, God's will be done. In our worldwide task of caring For the hungry and despairing, In the harvests we are sharing, God's will be done.

Verse 3: For the harvests of the Spirit, Thanks be to God. For the good we all inherit, Thanks be to God. For the wonders that astound us, For the truths that still confound us, Most of all that Love has found us, Thanks be to God.

God’s Word to His People Luke 17: Give thanks to God

“Whose Thanksgiving is This?” 1. We see who can give thanks 2. We see who we give thanks to

Let All Things Now Living CW #260 Verses 1-2 Text: Katherine K. Davis, Setting: THE ASH GROVE Tune: Welsh folk tune

Verse 1: Let all things now living A song of thanksgiving To God the creator triumphantly raise, Who fashioned and made us, Protected and stayed us, Who still guides us on to the end of our days.

Verse 1: God's banners are o’re us; His light goes before us, A pillar of fire shining forth in the night, Till shadows have vanished And darkness is banished, As forward we travel from light into light.

Verse 2: His law he enforces; The stars in their courses And sun in its orbit obediently shine. The hills and the mountains, The rivers and fountains, The deeps of the ocean proclaim him divine.

Verse 2: We, too, should be voicing Our love and rejoicing. With glad adoration a song let us raise Till all things now living Unite in thanksgiving: "To God in the highest, hosanna and praise!"

In thankfulness for our salvation, we support God’s work with our offerings.
