Reflections: “Repay” How can I repay the Lord for all the good he has done for me?

Jesus fulfills both the Covenant and salvationHistory

What do you know? Who is Jesus? What are the Gospels?

Salvation History What is salvation history? The pattern of specific events in human history in which God clearly reveals his presence and saving actions. Salvation was accomplished once and for all through Jesus Christ, a truth foreshadowed and revealed throughout the Old Testament.

The Gospels God’s saving work did not end with the words of the prophet. The Covenants, the Law and the prophets prepared the way for: the Incarnation (meaning “to become flesh”) referring to the mystery of Jesus Christ, the divine Son of God, becoming man – Jesus Christ became truly man while remaining truly God. The divine Son of God assumed a human nature and became man for the sake of our salvation.

The of the Scriptures is the Gospels The Gospels according to Matthew, Mark, Luke and John herald the Good news that God came to earth to fulfill the promises made to our ancestors, to form a covenant with all people, and to overcome the slavery of sin and darkness of death.

What is the Gospel Refers to the Good News revealed through Jesus Christ: His life Ministry Teachings Passion Death Resurrection Ascension

History of the word Gospel Translated from Greek – meaning “good news” – refers to the 4 books attributed to Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, “the principal source for the life and teaching of the Incarnate Word” (CCC, 125), Jesus Christ.

Each Gospel represents Jesus’ life and teachings from a different perspective – but they are in harmony and without error Announce the truth Jesus is the one and only way to the Father Are our primary source for information about Jesus Christ – the axis and center of salvation history They build on the themes of the Old Testament – point to Jesus as the New Covenant

Matthew, Mark, and Luke are called synoptic Gospels Synoptic Gospels – Greek meaning “seeing the whole together” – they are similar in style and content Luke and Matthew probably used Mark as a source The Gospel of John was written much later than the synoptic Gospels and used a more symbolic language to express the true identity of Jesus
