1 Instant Data Warehouse Operating System Support Extended 26/7/2004 – Today I am pleased to announce that the Instant Data Warehouse has been tested and is supported on Solaris and AIX. On the 1st of March I was pleased to announce that the full complement of databases I planned to support with Instant Data Warehouse were finally tested and supported. Since that time the Instant Data Warehouse has continued to evolve and extend it's reach. I am very pleased that the Instant Data Warehouse is now becoming a broad based ETL tool. We have added many utilities over the last few months. These have included:  Utilities to extract data from non-ODBC sources.  The ability to detect deltas in all sources supported.  The ability to manage a sophisticated and complex schedule of tasks to maximise the throughput of the overall batch processing.  The ability to submit DataStage jobs as a part of the scheduling capability. This has allowed us to integrate the Instant Data Warehouse into the DataStage environment to perform tasks in the Instant Data Warehouse that are difficult or impossible to perform in DataStage. (We hope to do the same for Informatica, watch this space.) The obvious 'next step' was, of course, to support the Instant Data Warehouse on the various flavours of Unix. By supporting the Instant Data Warehouse on the various unix platforms the opportunity exists for much larger organisations to take advantage of the productivity benefits of the Instant Data Warehouse. Today, I am very pleased to announce the Instant Data Warehouse has been successfully tested on Solaris 9 (64 bit) and AIX 5.1 (64 bit) both using Oracle 9.2.x (64 bit) databases. As a result of this testing, I am pleased to announce that the Instant Data Warehouse is now supported on Solaris 9, AIX 5.1 running Oracle 9.2 or higher. At last, customers who have data warehousing needs beyond the capabilities of windows 2000 to support can now take advantage of the productivity benefits offered with a tried, true and tested version of the Instant Data Warehouse on Solaris/AIX. In this case 'supported' means:  You purchase a source code license of the Instant Data Warehouse so that you can see exactly what the code is doing and provide some level of internal support for your company.  You purchase Easysoft ODBC drivers for the flavour of unix and database you wish to use.  You compile and link the Instant Data Warehouse on your system. The baseline code being executed on AIX/Solaris is exactly the same code being executed on windows. We were able to get the Instant Data Warehouse to run on Solaris and AIX with the same code base the windows version. By providing you with the source code, and knowing that the source code is exactly the same, it will be possible:  For us to replicate the majority of problems in our windows development environment.  For you to turn on debugging at your site to detect any other problems. I am very pleased to be able to:  Bring real support to the Instant Data Warehouse on Solaris/AIX accessing Oracle.  Be able to bring the productivity benefits of the Instant Data Warehouse to larger organisations.
