Greek Culture ! By Tae Dooley !

Ancient Greek Art, Architecture, & Writing Ancient Greece produced some of the most original and incredible works of art in history. The citizens of ancient Greece specialized in fields like sculpture and architecture. The Greeks made architectural structures such as buildings and temples. They also produced many forms of life size and miniature statues, and created very detailed pottery.

Map of Ancient Greece ! Greece was a series of small islands and cities, and on the maps below it shows some of the islands in cities that were around during ancient times. A G N R C E I E E C N E T !

Major Greek Gods The Greek Gods and Goddesses were the highest power, they were honored, respected, and praised. The Gods & Goddesses were said to control the weather, crop seasons, and basically everything else in the world.

Greek Gods & Goddesses Aphrodite- the Goddess of love & beauty. Apollo- the God of the sun & music. Ares- the God of war. Artemis- the Goddess of the hunt. Athena- the Goddess of wisdom & art. Demeter- the Goddess of the harvest. Dionysus- the God of wine. Hades- the God of the underworld Hephaestus- the God of metallurgy Hera- the Goddess of the family Hermes- the God of the trade (messenger) Hestia- Goddess of hearth Poseidon- God of the seas Zeus- the superior King of the Gods and ruler of mankind.

The Trojan War The first nine years of the war consisted of both war in Troy and war against the neighboring lands.. The Greeks realized that Troy was being supplied by its neighboring kingdoms, so Greeks were sent to defeat these areas. The war was long and difficult, the Greeks put up a strong fight, but were not able to break through the walls of Troy.

The Trojan Horse During the Trojan war, in a desperate attempt to enter the walls of troy, Odysseus had a large hollow wooden horse built. The soldiers hid inside the horse and were able to enter the city, then break free out of the horse in a surprise attack

Famous Heroes! Achilles- led the Greeks. Odysseus- also led the Greeks Diomedes- former suitor of Helen Philoctetes- former suitor of Helen Telemachus- Odysseus’s son Agamemnon- King of Mycenae

Famous Monsters! The Cyclops mentioned in The Odyssey, is considered to be a monster during the time period of the Trojan war. Centaurs werent as common, but they were believed to be half human half horse creatures.
