Don’t we just put the CD in the server Installing the SharePoint binaries is the easy part but there are many factors to consider before you click the install : Location of files – I.e. Index File / Search db Type of Install Default should be complete Only use Web Front end for if dedicating servers to web application hosting Consider How management sites will be accessed when installing more than one SharePoint Server I.e. Central Administration, Shared Services Use PSConfig command line install for total control of configuration parameters Define Service accounts Minimum 4 Shouldn’t be domain administrators Least privilege access if required Plan for your databases ( see next few slides )

It’s not just about SharePoint Plan your SQL storage How many Content db’s Quotas Site collection to database mapping – Allowing for total control of data growth and data planning Create in SQL then define in SharePoint Plan for Concurrent user load – RPS / Page Load Plan for AD – Service Accounts / location of DC and Kerberos Understand IIS – Performance and Troubleshooting 64 bit Hardware – Future proofing /performance /#servers

SQL database mapping HR Database Site collection Quota 50GB Projects Database Site Collection Quota 30GB Sales Database Site Collection Quota 75GB
