In this funny fish-out- of-water tale tracks the outrageous escapades of Sidney Young, a smalltime, bumbling, British celebrity journalist who is hired by an upscale magazine in New York City. Photos © 2008 MGM, Review © David Bruce

In spectacular fashion Sidney enters high society and burns bridges with bosses, peers and superstars. The film is based on Toby Young's memoir of the same name. Photos © 2008 MGM, Review © David Bruce

After disrupting one black-tie event by allowing a wild pig to run rampant, Sidney catches the attention of Clayton Harding (Jeff Bridges), editor of Sharp, and accepts a job with the magazine in New York City. Clayton warns Sidney that he'd better impress and charm everyone he can, if he wants to succeed. Photos © 2008 MGM, Review © David Bruce

Instead, Sidney instantly insults and annoys fellow writer Alison Olsen (Kirsten Dunst). He dares to target the star clients of power publicist Eleanor Johnson (Gillian Anderson). He upsets his direct boss Lawrence Maddox (Danny Huston) and tries to make amends by hiring a stripper to dance for Lawrence during a staff meeting. Photos © 2008 MGM, Review © David Bruce

Sidney, of course, doesn't stop there, finding creative ways to annoy nearly everyone. His saving graces: a rising, sexy starlet (Megan Fox) develops an odd affection for him, and in time, Alison whose friendship with him might be the only thing saving Sidney from torpedoing his career. Consensus voice: "[Pegg is] a goof, and he's funny enough to warrant the price of admission. But after this and Run Fatboy Run, he really needs to deliver something sillier before he loses fans and alienates his audience." --Roger Moore Orlando Sentinel Photos © 2008 MGM, Review © David Bruce

"The most important thing is that this film delivers what it says on the tin: comedy… (Our goal was) making people laugh.” --Producer Stephen Woolley Photos © 2008 MGM, Review © David Bruce

This film reminds us to laugh and view life in a lighter way. The film turns tragic situations into comedic moments. This is also a great way to approach life. Regretfully, most of us view life as a tragedy (negatively) instead of as a comedy (positively). Comedian Lewis Black is correct, “There's no measure to the value of comedy-- it's sanity maintenance, it's what keeps people on their toes, it's what provides humility, it's the insulation -- not only does it open us but it insulates us from everything.” The producers of this film join with God in establishing a new commandment: “Thou Shalt Laugh!” Review © David Bruce

Comedy frees everybody. Comedy reveals more about who we are than any other thing we do. What makes us laugh? It comes, you're not prepared. You're committing yourself when you laugh. You can hold back tears. You can't hold back a laugh.” – Bill Persky, Writer & Director (The Dick Van Dyke Show, That Girl, Kate & Allie) Photos © 2008 MGM, Review © David Bruce

“Once you can laugh at your own weaknesses, you can move forward. Comedy breaks down walls. It opens up people. If you're good, you can fill up those openings with something positive. Maybe... combat some of the ugliness in the world.” --Goldie Hawn Photos © 2008 MGM, Review © David Bruce
