Presentation transcript:

CSU Application Workshop Eligibility, Tips, Common Mistakes, then free time on computers.

Calculating your UC/CSU GPA  First look only at 10 th & 11 th grade  Palomar Courses: 5 units =2 weighted grades  Put a line through all non-college prep classes (Team Sports, CAD, Woodshop)  Repeated courses must be exact same level and title

Eligibility Calculator  Once you have calculated your GPA compare it on the Eligibility Index.  SAT is Reading Comprehension and Math test scores combined (no Writing). California Resident Eligibility Index GPA ACT Composite Score SAT Total Score 3.0 No Minimum

Tips  Keep your username and password written down somewhere. You can save applications and log on later to complete.  Use High School transcript in order to enter in class information. Do not send transcript unless requested.  Check 1 st page of application to see when school requires transcript.  You will find your SSID on top of your SMHS transcript (called state ID)  Complete one full application for one CSU before starting any other applications  Be sure to enter in the high schools that you have attended and Palomar (Under the College Info Tab) if you took a class there.  You are attending San Marcos High School in San Marcos, Ca NOT Santa Barbara or Texas.

 When entering in test information be sure to include scores.  If you are taking a test in the future (Oct/Nov) put that date on your application and leave your score blank  When taking SAT test use the code 3594 to send scores to ALL CSU campuses. Scores must be sent directly from College Board.  If you have listed a CSU campus as an ACT score report recipient, you can use the ACT Scores Manager through CSU Mentor to release your score to additional campuses. Before you can use the ACT Scores Manager, you must first have arranged for your scores to be sent to a CSU campus.

 Each CSU campus will ask you to create an account with their system. Do it and keep track of your password and username and check back at least once a week. Also, create a professional address that you will check. These are the official communication methods of CSU.  Track application status, “To Do” items, and Due Dates through campus accounts and .

Adding courses  Choose the school that they were taken at (SMHS or Palomar)  Choose the grade level, year, title and semester course with 2 grades given for a full academic year.  Choose the grade for each semester (if you repeated a D or F only report the new grade and not the D or F)  Designate if it was an honors course only if there is a star on the left of the course on your high school transcript.  CANNOT designate Bio (H), English (H), History (H), Geometry (H), or Algebra 2 (H) as an honors course

 List additional non a-g courses such as: Leadership (ASB), Yearbook, Drafting, Woodshop, etc (if asked).  When completing the information on the Fee Waiver page IT MUST BE ACCURATE. It can only be submitted once.  Fee Waiver = 4 campus applications for free  Can pay by credit card, check or money order (application fee $55.00)

Senior Year Courses  Senior Schedule: Enter in 1 st semester courses as “in progress”, 2 nd semester as “planned”  If you listed a course on your application and then drop it, you MUST notify the admissions office at each university to which you applied.  All acceptances are conditional; MUST earn C or better  If you are taking AP Gov this year, add AP Gov under the History/Social Studies section for 1 st semester and AP Macroeconomics under the “G” Elective category for spring semester  If you are taking Math Analysis/Trig this year (Mr. Kachorek period 2), TRIG/PRECALC as your course.

EOP  EOP is a separate application. Great program for lower income, first generation college students (parents did not graduate from 4 year university). AVID and AB540 students are encouraged to apply.  Cannot start EOP app until you submit CSU app.  EOP provides orientation sessions, tutoring, advising, transitional support, EOP grants

PACE Promise  Have you been enrolled in the San Marcos Unified School District all 4 years?  Have you completed the A-G coursework with grades of “ C ” or better?  Did you meet the CSU eligibility index?  Have you taken the SAT Reasoning or ACT Exam?  You must submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) starting January 1st.  PACE $CHOLAR  $tudents must pass the EAP test in English and math during the 11 th grade (taken during the STAR tests). *YOU MUST SUBMIT AN APPLICATION TO CSUSM*

CSU/UC Applications due Nov.30th NO APP, NO TURKEY!!
