DRAMATIC PLAY AND PUPPETRY

OBJECTIEVES GUIDELINES FOR WORKING WITH YOUNG CHILDREN IN CREATIVE DRAMATICS. DISCUSS APPROPRIATE WAYS TO USE PUPPETS IN EARLY CHILDHOOD PROGRAME.

WHAT IS DRAMATIC PLAY? Dramatic play is an excellent means for developing the creativity and imagination of young children who have intuitive ways of dealing with reality.

WHAT IS THE ROLE OF DRAMATIC PLAY IN CHILDREN,S DAILY LIFE? Children naturally learn They imitate people, animals and machines Enjoy re-creating the exciting experiences

GUIDELINES FOR PROMOTING DRAMATIC PLAY EXPERIENCES 1.Select a simple idea for the dramatic playoff a particular child from the child's past experiences. 2.Do not allow too much time to elapse between the original experiences and follow up dramatic play. 3.Set the stage with a few simple but fairly realistic props.

DO NOT OVER PLAN Start the role playing by taking part in it. Once the play gets going,reduce your participation. In general, keep the dramatic play and game activities short.

DRAMATIC PLAY AND LANGUAGE LEARNING Develop fluency in language. Helps to listen and respond to each other. Repeat what they have learned and enjoying saying them.

IMPORTANCE OF ROLE PLAYING Helps to develop young children's imagination. Helps children to see the viewpoints of other people Find ways to handle their emotions and their relationships with others.

CONCLUSION Drama is an excellent means for developing creativity and imagination in young children when it is related to the child personal sense without imposed adult standards.

The use of puppet provides opportunities for creative movements, dramatic and language development.
