Why Should We Implement BYOD at Lost Mountain? BYOD gives our students the opportunity to: o Have immediate access to information and on-line academic resources o Use devices they are familiar with and comfortable using o Take advantage of state-of-the-art applications for learning o Participate in more student-centered learning o Engage in more one-on-one interaction

What devices can our students use? * Laptops * Netbooks * Tablets (iPads) * Ipod Touch * eReaders * Smartphones * Old Smartphones will connect to the WiFi

Classroom Regulations & Expectations

When will we use them? For instructional purposes only: o In the classroom setting o Under teacher direction o Not for calls or social texting

Students will… o Keep phones and other devices on silent at school. o NOT record audio or video, or take photographs of students or staff for any reason whatsoever without express consent from the teacher and individuals to be recorded. o Comply with teacher requests to shut down their devices or close screens. The LMMS cell phone policy will be enacted if students are using their devices in ways other than instructed by the teacher.

Will students need their devices every day? No, students will not need to bring their devices to school every day.

Only the CCSDBYOD Wi-Fi network will be used. This connection has the same filters students use with school-owned technology. 3G or 4G networks will not be accessed during the school day.

How do students access the BYOD network? Settings Network Wi-Fi CCSD BYOD

Will students receive technical support? Technical support will not be available at school. The student is expected to be the expert with his/her device.

Equity BYOD is being integrated into our classrooms to enhance our students’ education. Alternatives to using personal devices will be included in activities requiring their use. Those alternatives include: Classroom desktops Group work Laptop carts Pencil and paper tasks

What about Apps? o There will be a tab on Blackboard where students can share educational apps. o Classrooms will have a place where students can recommend apps. o Students must download apps at home—not school.
