Mobile Learning Information for Parents Funding provided by Reidsville Area Foundation, Golden Leaf, and the School District

Purpose – Today’s Meeting To inform parents about the mobile learning initiative To inform parents about the rollout process To answer questions and provide feedback

Purpose – Mobile Learning To provide students access to high quality educational resources To help students be better organized and meet learning goals To apply technology skills that will prepare them for work and college

Students Stay Better Organized Learning Management –Lessons, Calendar Due Dates, Reminders, Quick Grading & Feedback, Links to Learning Resources, and Parent Access ……all in ONE CONVENIENT LOCATION

Students Stay Better Organized Google Education Apps – , calendar, word processor, spreadsheet, presentation ……all accessible online and collaborative!

Technology Skills Find and use information in online databases to think critically and creatively solve problems Develop and facilitate multimedia presentations Use online tools such as virtual graphing calculators

Laptop Google Chromebook – is a netbook used to access network learning resources –has 8-hour battery –Is lightweight and will come with carrying sleeve – comes on fast so students can work, stop, and start quickly without many distractions –provides safe and protected internet access outside of school –will work best with WiFi access outside of school – more information about affordable internet at >>>>

Laptop Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) –Must adhere to District Technology Office procedures (information sheet is available today for pickup) –Must be able to access Canvas –Must be able to access Google Apps –The district has no liability or responsibility for configuring, repairing or replacing the device. –Students will always have an option to use a Chromebook.

Responsibility Fees – no usage fee – District insurance to cover loss, theft, or damage is $25 per year before receiving a Chromebook. -OR- – Replacement Fee without insurance is $200 which covers loss, theft, or damage. Sleeves –District is providing a protective sleeve to be used to protect the computer.

Responsibility Returns –Chromebook, power adapter, and sleeve will be loaned to student for the entire school year including over breaks. –Chromebook, power adapter, and sleeve will be returned at the end of the school year. –Chromebook, power adapter, and sleeve will be returned to the current school if the student moves to another school.

Responsibility Daily Responsibilities –Students should come each day with a charged device. – “Close it, Move it” - students are expected to close the Chromebook before moving it. –Our school has a designated place to store Chromebooks when not in use.

Responsibility Acceptable Use Policy –Parents and Students will sign an acceptable use agreement (copies available today to take home) when picking up the laptop, not before. – Pamphlets that discuss responsible use are available today for you to take. –You and your student will have online access to more safe and responsible use of technology information this fall – iSAFE.

Roll Out Dates for DMHS Wednesday August 1 st, 2012: 2pm-7pm Thursday August 2 nd, 2012: 2pm-7pm Tuesday August 7 th, 2012: 3pm-7pm Wednesday August 8 th, 2012: Freshman Orientation: 6:00-7:30pm Thursday August 9 th, 2012: 10 th -12 th Parent Night: 3:30pm-6:30pm Any student AND parent can pick up their Google Chromebook during these times. We will not release a Chromebook to students who are not accompanied by a parent or guardian.
