Treadmills Michael Peres 6/14/09 ENG 3060

What Are Treadmills Composed Of ? Treadmills are broken down into five separate parts 1. The Motor 2. The Deck 3. The Rollers 4. The Belt

The Motor The motor is to the treadmill what the heart is to our bodies. It gives the machine life, meaning it powers the treadmill to turn the belt. A typical treadmill motor has 1.5 to 3 horsepower. Although it gives the machine life, it’s not the only thing that matters in making a complete treadmill.

The Deck The deck is the bones of the treadmill. It’s solid, it supports all of the weight, and will take all the abuse. The deck allows you to run on the treadmill. Steal is the best when it comes to the decks of treadmills.

The Rollers The rollers support the belt while you are walking, jogging, or running. Think of the belt as the skin and the rollers as the hair follicles on your body. The job of the rollers is to reduce stress for the belt (skin) and the motor(heart).

The Belt The skin of the treadmill. Belts are classified by “ply’s”, which is just the thickness of the belt. When looking to by a treadmill make sure your belt is at least 2 ply. The best belt is 4 ply. The stronger the belt, the longer it will last due to wear and tear.
