Scholarly Communication Landscape Teaching and research practices moving online… …dynamic content, Web2.0, OA, IR. New publishing models emerging… …if content is not online, it’s non-existent. …price increases, consolidation, and aggregation. Competition over market share threatens small publishing entities… Increased pressure on university press publishing… …struggle to modernize, lack administration support. “University Publishing in a Digital Age”, ITHAKA Report, 2007

Current Scholarship Program (CSP) 2010: JSTOR launches Current Scholarship program to help the academic community – presses, scholarly associations, libraries, faculty, and students – benefit from investment in a shared technology platform and related services to support the economically sustainable publication, dissemination, and use of new scholarship. Deep understanding library needs and the challenges and inefficiencies inherent in the current system of scholarly communication. Desire to collaborate in ways that are innovative, share and use technological and other resources wisely and efficiently, and promote wide- spread access to scholarship in sustainable ways.
