Exploring Paths of Joy

This week our attention turns to the Road to Emmaus story as we reflect on the theme “Exploring Paths of Joy.” The Road to Emmaus story tells us that the disciples were in despair, after the death of Jesus. Jesus walks with them down the road, offering hope and wisdom, but they do not recognize him. Here is the road to Emmaus Story in full :13-35

Listen to the song in this clip and consider how it relates to the idea of Jesus walking with us and guiding us along the way – even through those moments of despair. Display the lyrics of the song (On the next few slides) as the song is playing.

"A Thousand Miles" Making my way downtown Walking fast Faces pass And I'm home bound Staring blankly ahead Just making my way Making a way Through the crowd And I need you And I miss you And now I wonder.... If I could fall Into the sky Do you think time Would pass me by 'Cause you know I'd walk A thousand miles If I could Just see you Tonight It's always times like these When I think of you And I wonder If you ever Think of me 'Cause everything's so wrong And I don't belong Living in your Precious memory

'Cause I need you And I miss you And now I wonder.... If I could fall Into the sky Do you think time Would pass me by 'Cause you know I'd walk A thousand miles If I could Just see you Tonight And I, I Don't want to let you know I, I Drown in your memory I, I Don't want to let this go I, I Don't.... Making my way downtown Walking fast Faces pass And I'm home bound Staring blankly ahead Just making my way Making a way Through the crowd And I still need you And I still miss you And now I wonder.... If I could fall Into the sky Do you think time Would pass us by 'Cause you know I'd walk A thousand miles If I could Just see you...

Consider the people who you meet on your journey each day. Who has been the most significant, how have they impacted you and helped you to grow? When have you experienced your own “Road to Emmaus” moment?
