Broadcasting  “Drops back to pass, he has receiver open! He launches the bomb, end zone! TOUCHDOWN!” Being a broadcaster can be a very fun and exciting job. Most employees in this industry work in clean, comfortable surroundings in broadcast stations and studios. Some employees work in the production of shows and broadcasting while other employees work in advertising, sales, promotions, and marketing. As you can see here, there are many different things you can do in this field of work. I am very interested in this career because my dad used to be on the radio. He also used to DJ and used to broadcast high school football games on the radio, he is a natural MC. I am also told that I have the voice of a broadcaster when I talk. I am going to be researching the nature of work, the working conditions, qualifications job outlook and employment, earnings and the related jobs for my choice of career. I am going to be using the Occupational Outlook Handbook for my research. The information that I research will influence my opinion on if I really want to pursue the career of being a broadcaster.

Responsivilities  Determining what events to cover  How and when they will be presented in a news broadcast  Many radio stations depend on up-to-the-minute news for a major share of their programming  Gather information from various sources  Analyze and prepare news stories

Working Conditions  Erratic work schedules working early in the morning or late at night.  Work in clean surroundings in stations and studios  Some work in production and broadcasting  Sometimes need to travel to cover news stories  Technicians who work with equipment do heavy lifiting

Training, Qualifications & Advancement  A college degree in broadcasting, journalism, or a related field  Work at college radio and television stations or internships at professional stations  University of North Carolina  TV/Radio Broadcasting classes in high school

Job Outlook/Environment  Broadcasting provided about 331,000 salary and in 2006  Most jobs are in large establishments  Competition is expected for many jobs, particularly in large metropolitan areas  Projected Work in New York or Los Angeles

Earnings  Average annual earnings of salary in 2006 was $68,050  Fits my wants/goals money wise  First Purchase = house or car  Lifestyle goals of nice house, wife and 2 kids could be met with this salary

Back-Up Career  Middle School/High School Teacher  Career guidance and job placement  Follow-ups with students after graduation  Work in classroom with large class sizes if in public schools  Public school teachers must be licensed, bachelor’s degree and completion of an approved teacher education program  Median salary: 43,580 – 48,690

Summary After all of my research I am very interested in this career field and it also fits my lifestyle goals. I am looking forward to being on the radio or TV. I am also looking forward to setting up the radio show or TV show. There are lots of things to do in this career field. So I will be able to involved in many different things. I really want to be in the broadcasting field.
