MUSCULAR STRENGTH AND MUSCULAR ENDURANCE
MUSCULAR STRENGTH- The ability of the muscles to exert force. E.g. In weight lifting, lifting the heaviest weight you can manage.
THERE ARE THREE DIFFERENT TYPES OF STRENGTH:-
1. STATIC STRENGTH
2. DYNAMIC STRENGTH
3. EXPLOSIVE STRENGTH
HOW DO YOU IMPROVE MUSCULAR STRENGTH ? MUSCULAR STRENGTH is gained by using heavy weights and few repetitions. ON THE NEXT SLIDE IS AN EXAMPLE OF A STRENGTH TRAINING PERSONAL EXERCISE PROGRAMME:-
MUSCULAR ENDURANCE- The ability to use the voluntary muscles many times without getting tired.
HOW DO YOU IMPROVE MUSCULAR ENDURANCE ? CIRCUIT TRAINING is a good example of how to improve muscular endurance.
Another example is weight training. Here lighter weights are used but a higher number of repetitions are carried out. REPETITIONS AND SETS form the basis of training to improve both muscular strength and endurance. A REPETITION is one exercise of a particular movement. A SET is a number of repetitions of a particular exercise.
In a training programme you might do : 3 sets of each exercise: e.g. 3 sets of 10 bench presses using 20kg
