OUR CHANGING EARTH

LITHOSPHERIC PLATES

EVOLUTION OF LANDFORMS

TECTONIC FORCES Endogenic forces – The forces that act in the interior of the earth. Exogenic forces - The forces that act on the surface of the earth.

CAUSES Endogenic forces produce slow and sudden movements. Sudden changes cause EARTHQUAKES & VOLCANOES

VOLCANO A VENT OR OPENING IN THE EARTH’S CRUST THROUGH WHICH MOLTEN MATERIALS ERUPTS SUDDENLY.

EARTHQUAKE When the Lithospheric plates move, the surface of the earth vibrates. These vibrations are called EARTHQUAKES.

Earthquake hits Bhuj 26 th January 2001

EARTHQUAKE PREPAREDNESS

WEATHERING & EROSION Weathering – Breaking up of the rocks on the earth’s surface. Erosion - is the wearing away of the landscape by different agents like water, wind, ice.
