Coastal Plains

Vocabulary  Petrochemical-businesses related to oil and gas products  Alluvial soil- nutrient rich soil that allows for productive farming

Coastal Plains  Most populated region  Five different sections  Includes Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, and Houston

Piney Woods  Named because of the pine trees that cover the land  Wood and oil helped establish the area  Farming is the major industry

Gulf Coast Plains  Different types of grass  Allows for cattle ranching  Petrochemical industries built the region

Post Oak Belt  Named after plentiful oak trees  No major cities  Bryan-College Station  Farming and agriculture are the most important industry

Blackland Prairie  Most of the states largest cities and towns  Originally used for alluvial soil  Now known for merchandising, technology, and tourism

South Texas Plains  Less grass/vegetation than coastal plains  Mesquite trees, cacti, etc.  Farming and agriculture are major industries  Alluvial soil allows for citrus farms
