The Breadbasket Visit the World’s Beautiful Temperate Grasslands Pyramid of Life Travel

About the Grasslands From the Prairies of North America to the beautiful steppes of Russia and pampas of Argentina, the Temperate Grasslands are stunning evidence of the Earth’s productivity. Known to be the breadbasket of the Earth, many of these grasslands are located in your backyard, covering land in every continent except for Antarctica. Come explore with us! Unique Features: Richest, darkest soils on Earth Miles of tall grass Thousands of colorful wildflowers Lack of predators Dramatic seasons

Our Beautiful Locations North America Africa Middle East Europe Australia South America

Climate *Temperate grasslands are semiarid. Our grasslands received between inches of precipitation a year. Much of this falls as snow, serving as a reservoir of moisture for the beginning of growing summer. The summers have warm to hot temperatures. Any season is a good time to visit! Summer Come for our warm, dry summers and blue skies! Autumn Sightsee during our “golden season! Winter Play in the snow with the family! Spring Watch our beautiful wildflowers bloom!

Wildlife *The temperate grasslands are home to thousands of grazing animals. There are not many predators in the grasslands, so these animals live in abundance. Bison, deer and kangaroos are just a few of hundreds of different species in the grasslands. The large numbers of grazers is an example of an animal adaptation to the area.

Plants Grass, Grass, and more Grass! It is a grassland after all! The temperate grasslands are also home to the occasional tree or shrub. In the spring and summer the grasslands also feature beautiful wildflowers. In some parts of the world, these grasslands have been cultivated to grow various farming products. Extra Knowledge: Adaptations Over the years, the grasses have developed extensive root systems to keep animals from pulling out the roots, to absorb as much water as possible, and to keep the plant alive during fires.

Activities * There are lots of fun things to do in the grasslands! Here are just a few of the many activities you can participate in during your visit! Animal Watching Horseback riding Biking Hiking Photography

Environment * Grasslands cover nearly ¼ of the worlds land area. Millions of people on its fertile soils for food. It is one of the most important biomes on the planet, and yet only 8% of all grasslands worldwide are protected. Help us raise awareness for this crucial biome and learn more on your visit at our education centers! Your education can lead to thousands of saved acres of crucial land. Thank you for choosing the grasslands!
