Web Quest! Application: Finding the Area of Rectangles Third Grade Geometric Measurement Emily Longman

Task Together with your group, you will create a floor plan of a house in which each group member will have their own bedroom. You will submit: A blueprint for the house your group designs. One Word

Roles Everyone is expected to complete each of the four roles: Architect – Draw a blueprint of your bedroom. Architect Designer – Create a Word document with a picture of the furniture you choose to use in your room. Designer Carpenter – Arrange the furniture on your blueprint with accurate dimensions. Carpenter Inspector – Find the area of each of the pieces of furniture in a group member’s room. Inspector Work together! Each group member is responsible for their own room, but remember that they will all be in the same house.

Architect Click hereClick here to get a fun look at what an architect does. Basically an architect plans out floor plan of buildings. Your job is to pick dimensions of your room, which must have an area of 100 square feet. Don’t forget a door, and maybe even windows! Everyone’s rooms need to fit together somehow into one house. It may look a little like this: You’ll put it together using Floorplanner.Floorplanner Back to Roles

Designer For this part, your job is to pick your furniture. Remember that these will be bedrooms, so you will each need to include at minimum a bed, desk, dresser, and bedside table. You should also pick at least one other piece of furniture. Be creative! Some ideas include: storage bin, wardrobe, chair, rug, bookshelf, or a couch. Put pictures of your choices together in a Word document. Back to Roles Try These Websites! Ikea Rooms to Go Ethan Allen Target

Carpenter Once you have your furniture picked out, figure out how it will all fit in the room! Arrange it on your group’s blueprint on Floorplanner. Decide on realistic dimensions for all the furniture. Use this chart to find typical dimensions if you need help. Label your furniture with the dimensions.this chart Back to Roles

Inspector You also need to calculate the area of all the furniture in two of your group mates’ rooms. Show your work! Check the following sites for a refresher on calculating area using multiplication Back to Roles
