The Wizard’s Computer Club Volunteer Information FAQs

What do you want? Do you want to do some good in the world? Would you like to help underprivileged children? Would you like to start teaching right now?

Then the Wizard’s Computer Club Is for You!

What is the Wizard’s Computer Club? An afterschool technology and literacy program for children in grades 2-5 Focus: ◦ Building literacy skills ◦ Building technology skills ◦ Increasing self-confidence ◦ Providing a mentoring relationship with a university student

What do children do at the Club? Participate in a specially designed learning environment using computers. Progress through a virtual castle-like maze that serves as a portal for educational websites. Explore the sites with you.

This is the Club homepage.

Children also write every day. LearningWeb Blog. ◦Interact with a fictional Wizard. ◦ You answer the children’s daily letters to the Wizard. ◦OR interact with peers.

What would I be doing? Work with 2 students on a regular basis. Serve as a mentor and tutor as students explore websites of interest. ◦Reading, math, social studies, science, health, music, art, careers. NO extra knowledge required! You and your children learn together.

How can I benefit? ◦A warm relationship ◦Satisfaction of teaching ◦Rich diversity experience
