Use the information on the following slides to complete the foldable for your notes. Some of this information should be familiar because you learned some of this information last year.

Completing the foldable Use the next slide to label the outside of your foldable. Then use the following slides to complete the inside of the flaps – there is one slide for each flap. When you have completed the foldable there are a few additional notes that you need.

Negative: Regular Forms Use a negative command when you want to tell someone NOT to do something Use the “tú” form of the subjunctive. Cantar = No cantes Beber = No bebas Escribir = No escribas The subjunctive is another set of verb tenses. We will learn how to form this tense after we finish the foldable.

Negative: Irregular Forms Dar = No des Estar = No estés Ir = No vayas Ser = No seas [Note that none of these have “yo” forms that end in “o”]

Negative: Pronoun Placement With negative commands, the pronoun comes before the verb. No la cantes No lo bebas No te levantes

You will learn more about how to use the subjunctive tense next year in Spanish 3. But for now you need to know how to form it to make negative “tú” commands. Here’s a little something to help you remember how to form the subjunctive.

Go to the “Yo”: Drop the “O”: Do the switcheroo:

Forming the subjunctive Go to the “yo”, Drop the “o” Do the switcheroo AR verbs take ER endings and ER and IR verbs take AR endings -ar -es -er/-ir -as Cantar = No cantes Beber = No bebas Escribir = No escribas
