What is a Calorie? Good?Bad? The amount of heat it takes to raise one gram of water one degree centigrade.

Calories: where are they found?  Organic, carbon containing substances wood, oil, paper, alcohol, cloth, coal, trees, hay…..  Calorie (energy) sources relevant to nutrition Carbohydrates Lipids (fats and oils) Protein Alcohol…not essential….provides 7 calories/gram FOOD! 4 calories/gram 9 calories/gram
