Welcome to Meet Your Teacher Night Miss Miller’s 2 nd Grade Houghton Elementary School

A Day in 2M Daily Schedule –Morning Meeting – Greeting, Share, Activity, News –Literacy Block – Phonics, Reader’s Workshop –Centers/RTI – Individual and small groups –Math Workshop –Snack – 1:30 or 2:40 each day Snack milk is $.50/day (Milk prices on website) Provide necessary cutlery/easy to eat snack Try to send in something healthy We can no longer provide snacks for the children if they forget theirs so please make every attempt to remember to pack one on a daily basis. –Writer’s Workshop –Science/Social Studies – Topic changes by the month For more information on the curriculum, visit the district website, and click on the “curriculum” tab on the left hand side.

Homework Our “Rule of 10’s” – 20+/- Minutes per night

Homework Cont. You will receive a Homework Packet every Friday. Look at the bottom of the sheet for important reminders. The math sheets will be coming home every night. Please return the day after they come home. Each week your child will also have one Phonics sheet to complete. This can be done any night but must be returned by Friday. If your child is struggling with the math, have them do what they can and send in what they did finish. Reading is required 15 minutes every night. May read on the weekends too. Send in the reading logs on Monday from the week before.

WRSD Assessments AIMSWEB – Assessment 3 times a year. This assessments looks at reading fluency. DRA – Developmental Reading Assessment – done 2 times a year in the fall and spring. This test assesses fluency and comprehension. Sight Words – 2 lists are assessed and practiced regularly for a goal of reading all words by the end of second grade. Your child’s assessment scores will be reviewed at our fall conference: see back table to reserve your time!

A Little Peek of our Website

Parent Volunteers Library volunteers are needed every Thursday from 1:40-2:35. This person would read a story to our class and assist in helping children find books. Volunteers are also used to assist with classroom projects and holiday events. 2M Room Coordinators is Nancy Terlato. She will get in touch with you for the classroom needs.

Correspondences & Belongings Please be sure that all notes, envelopes, book orders, etc. have your child’s name and my name on it. Lunch and/or milk money should be in envelopes every day. Write your child’s name/initials on ALL belongings (coats, hats, bags, lunch boxes, etc)

Supplies and Thank You’s Thank you to all the 2M families that have donated supplies for our classroom. We are consistently in need of Clorox wipes. If you are able to send them in when you think of it, please do so. The class is in need of a few things. Please look on the whiteboard and take an owl if you can provide any of these things.

Miscellaneous Please send in a water bottle with your child on a daily basis. Make sure it is a different one than the one you send in for lunch. Practice tying shoes with your child.

Maternity Leave I will be out on Maternity Leave for the months of November and December. Right now, my plan is to return with the children when they return from Christmas break Mr. Cipro and I are working together to find the best sub for the class.

If you have concerns about your child, please contact me to set up a time to talk in private. Our phone system does not always tell me I have a message for days later. Please try to not leave messages and get a hold of me through or a note.

Before You Go... Please leave updated info sheet and photo consent form on my table by the door. Reply to your child’s letter Reserve your spot for a conference on October 16th at the back table. Sign up to volunteer in the library on the back table. Take magnet, sight word lists, handouts, and your child’s head from their desk.
